The Spring-Summer season is bedecked in refined lightness comprising vintage overtones, poetic pursuit of colour and impeccably stylish style.
Colours The world of colours draws inspiration from the magical realism of Edward Hopper, the great 20th century American painter, who said of himself: “I paint what I ‘feel’ with my eyes”. Photographic cuts and compositions embrace intense, dazzling colours in a figurative vision combined with a moving, poetic feeling that influenced generations of film-makers, from Hitchcock and Antonioni to Wenders and Jarmusch. Four paintings provided the inspiration for the colours of the SS14 collection:
“Rooms by the Sea” inspired the collection’s use of Naples Blue and turquoise / Grey, Burnt red and Purple with touches of blue come from the work “Dawn in Pennsylvania” / “Eleven A.M.” provides faded blues
and indigo / Light greys mixed with straw yellow and light beiges reference the work “From Williamsburg Bridge”.
Style The design of the SS 2014 collection offers a modern take on 1960s West Coast elegance, with suits that conjure up Hollywood glamour and the lightness of everlasting Californian spring. The distinguishing features:
_ Double-breasted silhouettes, linen trousers, jackets contrasting with trousers and sporting wide, sartorial lapels _ Printed shirts _ Check patterns for trousers and jackets _ Overcheck suits, with bold pinstripes _ Variations of cotton, linen and mohair for fabrics.
New to the collection The collection includes eye-catching garments with a unique mix of traditional and original elements:
_ the “PILOTA” jacket, a blazer made with an exclusive fabric by Biella woollen mill Fratelli Tallia di Delfino in waffle weave mohair:
a deconstructed “knit” jacket which is creaseproof, thanks to the composition and weave of the fabric, presented in original packaging, as if it were a sweater _ Blazer in canvas weave stretch jersey with contrasting lining in shirt fabric _ Luxury version of 5-pocket trousers made in cotton/linen with Western style pocket.
Fabrics Suits once again confirm their predilection for fabrics Made in Italy: super 130’, 150’, 180’ in wool/silk, wool/linen/mohair. A classic choice, which in weaves is expressed through a fondness for pinstripes, Prince of Wales and maxi Prince of Wales checks plus overchecks with contrasting coloured thread, all impeccably sartorial. Jackets, meanwhile, are in light cloth (wool/linen, wool/linen/silk, wool/mohair blends) with bold checked patterns that reflect the same taste as suits. Shirts sport jacquard prints, while ties are in armure silk.
